University of Waterloo Article Highlights Benefits of Collaboration with deutraMed®

A recent University of Waterloo news article shines a spotlight on the university’s collaboration with our company. The article, headlined “Not a D-rop wasted: Chemistry student collaborates with a deuterium science and innovation company to recycle wastewater” explains how both organizations benefit from the relationship.

A team at the university led by Dr. Graham Murphy, Professor of Organic Chemistry and Associate Dean of Science (External Affairs), is working with deutraMed on a project to analyze, evaluate and purify deuterium oxide (D2O) wastewaters for refining and reuse. The goal is to support deutraMed’s efforts to expand the supply of D2O it provides to advanced technology, health sciences and research customers.

The project also supports the recycling and reuse of deuterium-rich wastewaters left from industrial processes, putting a relatively scarce and highly valuable product back to productive use. The collaboration also provides significant benefits to U Waterloo, where a fifth-year chemistry student, Allysa Greidanus, gains practical, real-world experience as part of her studies.

We thank Dr. Murphy and the university for opening their doors to us and look forward to continuing our work with them.
