deutraMed’s Steven Bovair to Attend Electronic Specialty Gas & Systems Conference, Oct. 22-24

deutraMed™ is attending the 2024 Electronic Specialty Gas & Systems (ESGS) Conference at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Arizona. Steven Bovair, Sales Manager, will represent the company at the annual event, which takes place October 22-24, 2024.

deutraMed is a leading global supplier of deuterium (D2) gas, which is used globally in the fabrication of semiconductors and fibre optics. We work directly with customers who are actively seeking to recover deuterium from end-use applications for re-enrichment and reuse. deutraMed’s re-enrichment process significantly reduces the need to rely on new supplies of deuterium oxide, the raw material used to produce the deuterium gas that is used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Most deuterium oxide available in the market today is produced with energy-intensive processes that depend heavily on electricity from coal-fired power plants. The recovery and re-enrichment of deuterium gas would provide a significant sustainability benefit by capturing gas with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) up to 15 times that of CO2 – a GWP that is equivalent to methane. Further, it can react with and amplify the GWP of fluoro-compounds with a GWP thousands of times higher than CO2. It is therefore important to continue R&D around the capture, recovery and reuse of D2 gas.

The ESGS conference focuses on the market, technology trends and market drivers for electronic gases. This includes developments in the bulk, rare and specialty gas markets that are critical to the continued growth of the electronics industry. The conference, a gathering place for executives, buyers, product managers, and strategic planners from the electronic gases value chain, features industry experts with insights on key developments and challenges in this market.

Justin Guo Wins deutraMed Chemistry and Innovation Award at Canada-Wide Science Fair

deutraMed Inc. congratulates Justin Guo, a student from the Greater Vancouver area, for winning the deutraMed-sponsored Chemistry and Innovation Award at the 2024 Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). Guo won the award for his project “Plastic Degradation Through a Novel Thermal Electro-Fenton System” in the science fair’s grade 7 and 8 Junior Category.

Guo’s project aims to create an effective solution to counter the growing rise of plastic pollution. His efforts were inspired by the inadequacy of current methods of addressing this issue. Guo’s innovative solution employed an electro-Fenton mechanism to oxidize plastic into non-harmful substances, with the only input being electricity. The results of are very promising: this method can convert plastics into safe products, with little to no emissions and minimal energy input.

The Canada-Wide Science Fair, held this year in Ottawa, is Canada’s foremost annual youth science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) event, bringing together top young scientists and their projects nationwide. deutraMed sponsors the Chemistry and Innovation award as part of its commitment to fostering Canada’s next generation of STEM innovators. The award recognizes the Grade 7 or 8 student whose project demonstrates outstanding innovation in chemistry.
